Ford Maverick The first Ford Maverick was a rear wheel drive compact car that was built from 1970 to 1977 in the USA. The original model was a 2-door sedan priced at $1,995. The Maverick was designed to be inexpensive and easy to build, and easily repaired by shade tree mechanics. The Ford Maverick was styled with a long hood, fastback roof, and short deck on a 103" wheelbase.

Got it directly from a former top Ford engineer, the Maverick WAS NOT a replacement for the Falcon. They are in different classification (never mind that the classification was re-definded after the Falcon was dropped).

The Maverick was developed by the design team that preceeded Iaccoca's elevation to president of Ford. He axed all the flowing styling of Ford products (they survived in Australia, i.e. XA/XB/XC Falcons) and were replaced by more boxy styling.

The Maverick was to end production after three years and be replaced by the Granada but fleet sales (U.S. Government, etc.) of four door Mavericks meant profit for Ford and the line was continued. But that explains why Parts from the underside of the Maverick and Granada the same.

Got to thinking the other day, I remeber seeing four door Maverick sitting along the local streets not all that long ago, the car was being held together by the roof and not the chassis platform. Hardly see a Maverick or Comet today but still see a few early, non-restored Falcons parked on streets near small colleges, etc.

Mavericks/Granadas/Fairmonts were throw away cars! The faster they vanished from the streets the faster new cars sold.

I owned a '71 4dr briefly, but my buddy and I built several including a '71 former 170 powered 2dr that ran mid-13's
My friend mark had a super early 2dr with the ignition down low almost in the dash. Parted several out to build the last one.
I really like the style of them and now prices are astronomical!

Nope, your swap cars are '79-93 Mustangs and '81-?Granadas and the smaller '80s LTDS,they are all based on the FOX platform-the Fairmont was first-all the others followed.

Mavericks have a lot of possibilities, probably the most talked about swap is the I6 to 302 engine swap which I would someday like to do. I've had mine since 02 and have been unable to thus far because of $$$ and the fact i'm still learning .

Another is swapping in a Lincoln Versailles Rear End not really neccessary though IMHO unless you're swapping in a 351W or squeezing in a 460. The 8' Rears on the 71-77 Cars are more then adequete for a 302. 70's use a 7.5' I believe.

Well i am a young member only fourteen but knows alot about cars for my age well, i had a 79 Ford F100 custom with a 460 big block(from a lincoln) bored 60 over in it....welll my dad wrecked it. Good news is he is ok and the motor and tranny is still good. Well i was wondering if i could possibly stuff that 460 and C6 tranny into a 72 Ford Maverick. If not ok. But if i can please tell me. I also need to know of any adjustments that may need to take place within the Maverick. If you could help me out with these questions it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Some of the parts for the brakes that will swap are the disc brake setups from the Granada. Most other suspension parts are still available from parts suppliers like NAPA.
