Having some serious pedal fade in my one owner rust pile on wheels (85 LX coupe, 302 5 speed).
During the recent cold weather I had no pedal sometimes, decent pedal at others. Heard a lot of air coming out from near the brake pedal's location and figured there is a vent located in that area.
But here is my question: How does the power boster develop "power"? I can find no vaccum hose or fittings running between the engine and the boster housing. (The shop manuals do indicate the 4 and 6 cylinder cars had a line between the block and boster but not the 8).
I'd like to figure this out before taking the time to change the master cylinder.
See if you still have the fade with the engine off. Pump up the brakes and see if the pedal stays hard or goes to the floor, if it goes to the floor you have a bad Mastercylinder.
There should be a fat vacuum hose that goes to the Power Booster.

Figured that but wanted a second opinion. And, yes, there SHOULD be a vacuum hose but this car doesn't have a place to attach one when seen (and felt with hands) through the hood opening. Maybe it is routed through the firewall and attaches inside the car?

Chalk it up to old age and not seeing what I thought I should see vs what is there.
Yep, right there on the front of the boster is a 90 degree fitting with a thick hose that runs along the firewall to a vacuum manifold. I wanted to see a thick hose coming off the side of the boster and running directly to the top of the engine.
I've decided "it is time" and have signed up for a 23 year old "seeing eye" redhead. (Come to think of it if I had done that earlier I'd have kids by now that could work on the car for me. LOL!)
