Ford Mustang The Mustang remains one of the most widely recognized, respected, and desired nameplates in the automobile business. The Ford Mustang defined the pony-car segment in 1964; Plymouth's Barracuda may have beaten Ford to the showroom by 16 days, but it was the Mustang that set the sales records. The 'Cuda is gone now leaving Ford's pony to prance alone.

Default need some opinons

I am going to build a factory five mk 3 roadster for my son (cobra kit)

I am not very familiar with ford or the mustang drive train but I will be before I start this is the beginning and that is why I would like as much input as possible

I can use a donor car for most of the incidental parts and I can use the power train from a mustang if I wish this would be obviously the most economical way to complete the car

the donor options are from any mustang 1987 thru 2004 but not being familiar with the difference and performance I was wondering if this was your build and you wanted to use a donor which yr. of mustang would you use and why I think that I have decided to use the t-5 transmission with the 8.8 differential but I have not decided on the motor I do not have enough information yet. I am not solid on the trans or diff yet but so far theses seem to be the better of my options what do you think

If it was me, I would go with a 302 from an '87-'93 car.

302 is easier to work with compared to the later 4.6 liter engines.

I think a T-5 trans. would be the most fun to use.

I have two fords and both have big blocks but for your son i would have to say a 302,T5,and a 8.8 would be fun the 302 will take the abuse of a younger person. The T5 would hold up better than a automatic trans will trust me the only auto i have not distroyed is a C6 in my 78 f-250. You seem to have a good idea of what to put togeather for not knowing ford that well. Good luck and hope your son likes his car.

If you have help on the technical side and the cash I would get the powertrain out of a wrecked 03-04 Cobra . The tranny is a 6 speed and the engine is factory Supercharged ,but it is costly. Second would be a 302/T-5 from a 93 Cobra if you can find one ,more power and stronger tranny. 3rd just go with a mild 302 and a T_5 tranny ,I would buy the tranny new and aftermarket.
