| The 98 should work fine, but your current transmission will not bolt up. Is your ranger 2wd or 4wd?

| Since it is 2wd, it would be more complicated. I don't know if there is a transmission for the v8 that is 2wd. You might need to have the transfer case there, just without the front driveshaft coming out of it.

| The transmission won't work, because it isn't strong enough, plus it wouldn't bolt up properly. You could get a 4R70W (automatic) transmission, which is what is usually behind the v-8's. I've also heard that a ZF5 manual transmission from a 5.0 bronco will work, but I don't know for sure.
Edit: I think a T45 from a mustang would work also, and that way it would be a 2wd transmission.

| I'd personally just put a C4 behind it.
