Default '01 P71 wanting upgrades =]

I have a blue 01 police interceptor that i got from a police auction 2 years ago. i must say it's been a fun ride to have ...fun to mess around with friends with.

I'm looking for some advice with the possible intake manifold upgrade. I know that the crown vic and the mustang GT both use a 4.6L V8 and was wondering if i was able to find a mustang GT in a junkyard, take the heads and intake off that, would it mount easily and work well with my crown vic's block?

Also would there be a better route to go? i know going to a junkyard and pulling things off a beat up car is the budget way to go but i'm not too familiar with what intakes will work with my engine.

I'm looking to gain more of the mustang sound and a bit more compression out of my engine out of this and the obvious...more HP.

I'm also removing the fan and putting in an electric fan to free up some hp.

You could try to find the 32 valve cobra 4.6. You'll want to change out pistons too in that case for the needed valve relief.

is it possible to do that swap without pulling out the engine tho? if i replace the pistons i would have to pull the engine correct? i don't really have the equipment to do that atm. When i get access to a shop again i was gonna do that and replace the cams.

also would it be beneficial to replace the headers at the same time as the intake manifold to make more room for the added exhaust?

i'm trying not to spend more than 1200 at the moment so i'm hoping i can get lucky in the junk yard

I don't know much about the 4.6, but you may consider the PI head, if you p71 isn't already equipped.

You'll just about have to yank the engine to change pistons, and usually you'll want to do a full rebuild.

typically you'd have to pull the engine to do pistons, as they come out through the bottom... and even the honing for new pistons/rings will be alot easier on a engine stand.

Most major engine mods will need the engine to be pulled. It was my understanding that the police cruisers are pretty damn fast when they're stock.

I'd recommend a supercharger or turbo charger for the easiest way to bolt on maybe 50-80 hp without tearing apart the block.

it is quick...but heavy as hell. the "chip" really isnt a performance chip it's just a package that makes the car more durable at higher speeds.

performance wise it really isn't much quicker than a stock crown vic from what i've read.

i wasn't fully intending on replacing the pistons because i knew it would require me rebuilding the block. If i were to do that i would, dare i say, drop my 350 (ls1 347) into it like i would in my demolition derby cars. I was thinking more of just putting mustang intake manifolds and cyclinder heads on it at the moment if i could manage to get away from putting pistons in also..and eventually switch out the headers as well. i thought about the supercharger but i don't want to put 5 grand into a car that i only paid 3 grand for. i'm a college student lol. i had to eat a lot of ramen noodles to save up enough to even get the car.

so i'm thinking possibly pulleys..and intake manifold if i can do it without pulling the engine otherwise i'm just gonna keep it stock till i can afford to put money into things that don't really need it
