4.2? in 89-90? I wasn't aware that this paticular engine was available at that time. I thought it wasn't available until 1998 in the F150. Do you mean the old old 255 V8?
Get ready for the 351 boss build this summer, 4v closed chamber heads, 2.25/1.75 valves, .750 lift, 12.5:1 piistons, wieand tunnel ram, nitrous, I think its gonna roar!
the guy that has it said it came out of a 89-90 cougar, has 2000km on it and is sitting in a heated hanger at a small airport. that's the specs he gave me?Thought it would be good deal for $400 for engine and tranny??
Yeah, the 4.2L ( 255 ) was no longer produced after 1984, I think. The 4.2L offered in the F150's is a v-6 is it not? I think the guy you bought it from got the year wrong. But if you can get all the parts it should be a simple swap

Regardless the 255 V-8 is not a great motor. Harder to find parts and when you can find a 302 for same or even less money. I would pass on the 255 (4.2l) My 2 cents !
If it is low miles and you can hear it run that would be ok. I sure wouldn't want to spend that much if it had more than 100,000 miles on the engine or if it had problems.
