Ford Pick-Up Ford Pickup Trucks - 1948 thru 1979 1948 was the year that Ford introduced the "F" prefix for use in designating the load capacity of its lighter duty trucks. The 1/2 ton was called an F-1, the 3/4 ton truck was referred to as an F-2 and the F-3 designation meant a one ton carrying capacity Pickup. The "F" series continued through F-8 for heavy duty trucks.

Default 68 pickup

Hi my grandpa gave me a 68 long bed ford pickup for Christmas a couple years ago. It is still at his house, but I will hopefully bring it to our house in the summer. I haven't started to work on it yet, but I am planning on doing it up pretty good. I would like to start with the motor and work my way out. It has a 360 ci motor. Is there any suggestions about getting a decent amount of horsepower out of it for a reasonable price and making the motor reliable. I would like to put a crate motor in it, but rebuilding is probably the better option. I am only 19 and have plenty of friends that know alot about cars. They have done a couple of engine swaps so they would be alot of help, but I would like to look at all of my options. The truck was kept in a garage so it is still in very good shape. This will be my first project car. It seems like it is a good one to start with.
