Ford Pick-Up Ford Pickup Trucks - 1948 thru 1979 1948 was the year that Ford introduced the "F" prefix for use in designating the load capacity of its lighter duty trucks. The 1/2 ton was called an F-1, the 3/4 ton truck was referred to as an F-2 and the F-3 designation meant a one ton carrying capacity Pickup. The "F" series continued through F-8 for heavy duty trucks.

Default 98 F150 - Electical Problem

1998 F150 4x4 SuperCab. Was driving normal speed when battery idiot light starting comming on occationally, amp meter seemed steady. Then I notice that the light was comming on when the rpm hit 2200. Running lights and heater fan. Then I tried to put the truck into 4-wheel drive. Wouldn't engage and light never came on. Then ABS ligh came on and would not go out, then Brake warning light came on (dimly), then battry light came on, then amp gage went to zero. When I shut the truck it would not restart (clicking sound like dead battery). All of this sounds like a bad alternator except for the odd idiot light displays and the amp meter indicating proper charging.

I am off the road and hard to get to at the momment so I need to do some trouble shooting before I walk to town. Any advice would be helpful.
