Ford Pick-Up Ford Pickup Trucks - 1948 thru 1979 1948 was the year that Ford introduced the "F" prefix for use in designating the load capacity of its lighter duty trucks. The 1/2 ton was called an F-1, the 3/4 ton truck was referred to as an F-2 and the F-3 designation meant a one ton carrying capacity Pickup. The "F" series continued through F-8 for heavy duty trucks.

Exclamation I would like some advice please.

I am considering buying a '99 F250 7.3 Power Stroke Diesel extended cab, full size bed, 2 wheel drive, with 170,000 miles. They are asking 11,500.00. The truck seems to be in very good condition, runs great, transmition sems to shift properly, only a few scratches and is loaded. After taking my truck in trade I can get it for around 9000.00 with taxes. I have learned that diesels can get up to 500,000 miles if serviced regularly, but what about the rest of the truck. Is this a good move?

Mine is a '97 F250 Diesel, extended cab (but no back door), full size bed, 4 wheel drive with about 200,000 miles. The engine is in excellent condition, and it was previously owned by a teenage-type person, so I would say they are very sturdy engines. My body and frame seem to be pretty good as well. The bed especially is in very good shape. I don't live in a high ice area though (salt, sand, etc). Pete (sorry, name all the vehicles) is just awesome in all areas except the electric seats and windows-I must get them redone, as they work if Pete wants them to. :-) Also my rear tank has a leak, but I haven't taken him in to my mechanic yet, so I don't know if it is wear or some other issue. I paid only $5000 for mine though. Perhaps your region is more expensive than mine, but isn't $11,500 a bit high?
