Ford Probe The Probe appeared in 1988 and lasted until 1997 in the United States. It was based on a series of futuristic concept cars of the early 1980s, the likes of which have been seen in films like Judge Dredd, Back to the Future Part II and Total Recall. It was a coupe based on the Mazda GD platform, and was powered by a 2.2 L SOHC I4 cylinder Mazda F2 engine.

Default 95 Probe SE I4 shakeing problem when stopped

Hey I have a 95 Probe SE I4, the Overdrive Off light is flashing. It has done this before and I simply unhooked the battery for a bit to clear the code. Got the light to stop flashing atleast. However I still have a problem. When you put the car in drive the car will jump forward with a thud (I do need to replace the front motor mount i have noticed) when stopped the car will shake/vibrate rather harshly while in drive. When its cold out this seems to be worse. Also when the AC is on when it is shakeing like so it will go through a range of aprox 500 rpm's up and down from its idle with a clicking noise from the ac compresser or maybe the cabin fan. There is a slight noise when the brakes are pressed maybe a vaccum leak somewhere. The only things I have had to replace in the two years or so of owning the car is Plugs and Wires cause of a bad miss in the #2 cylinder, air filter, starter, oxygen censor, trans fluid@138,000 miles -the old was black (not dark red but BLACK) and valve cover gasket. I took it to a shop to get an alignment and they told me I need new lower control arms on the car (it still drives lol wears the crud out of some tires though hehe) but that is next on my list o stuff to do along with the motor mounts. If you have a question or want me to give some more detail let me know

Ill also be interested in this problem cause i have it to, about 1 month so far.

93 2L probe Automatic.

I have 300K on the engine so im thinking a engine rebuild, but also considering that the trany probably needs a rebuild too.

All and all, im thinking a trade in for something else is the best way to go, cause im not sure 5 or thousand for a trany/engine rebuild is worth it for a 15 year old car....

Any opinions or possible info on the vibration problem welcome...

PS I haven't had the car diagnosed so ... i will report back though when i find the problem...

Also i found out that i needed an alignment, the frame & alignment place tells me that a special kit is needed just to adjust the Castor & camber ( not expensive just a rare item that a lot of places don't use or have) .

They also tell me that i need the rear torsion bar end thingys and the top plates of the front MacPherson struts are rusted and need to be replaced before the alignment can be done.... total cost to repair and do the alignment $600....

Add to that the valve lifters are leaking ( blue smoke after starting first thing in the morning for half a minute or so only).
