Ford ProbeThe Probe appeared in 1988 and lasted until 1997 in the United States. It was based on a series of futuristic concept cars of the early 1980s, the likes of which have been seen in films like Judge Dredd, Back to the Future Part II and Total Recall. It was a coupe based on the Mazda GD platform, and was powered by a 2.2 L SOHC I4 cylinder Mazda F2 engine.
ok, here we go. I bought a 93 probe gt off of ebay. Drove it home over 150 miles with no problems, a couple of days later the trans started slipping. The first thing I did was have the trans fluid changed. Next thing I know I only have 2nd gear and the dreadded o/d light is flashing.
I bought an identical parts car ( crashed driveable car ) off of ebay and started reading about the problems alot of people are having with similar issues. First I cannot read the trans codes as they are the old eec4 codes and I cannot find anyone with the equipment to read the codes.
Next I started buy swapping the ECM/TCM with no changes.Then the speed sensor then the TPS, the TPS, and finally the tranny temp sensor inside the trans valve body. After all that I still have the same problems.
At this point I am readdy to change the tranny. It just seems to me to be an electrical issue more than a mechanical issue as it has plenty of pressure in 2nd gear and it dumps the pressure off when put in another gear like it is getting bad readings from somewhere.
Is there something else that could be giving bad readings as I am out of ideas and going to swap trannies soon. thanks!!!!
First I see I wrote TPS twice, one was the trans position sensor and the other was the throttle position sensor.
I just purchased a breakout box (I expect it here in about two weeks or so). I am going to go through all the circuts and see if I cant locate the issue that way. I will post my results as there are probably more people having the same issues that I am having.
Also, anyone living near eastern Pennsylvania in need of any parts just let me know as when I am done I am scrapping the parts car( 93 gt black ext grey int ).
I picked up the above mention pile in seemingly excellent condition, drove it home (about ten blocks) and even out to the store a couple of times before it went kapoot. I knew when I bought t that the IAC needed to b replaced so the car sat a couple of months until I could afford to do that. In the meantime, I started it and pulled it in and out of the driveway about once a week just to keep things lubed.
One day I pulled it out and noticed some tranny fluid dripping along the way. The car didn't wnt to take off in drive but would go in low 2 or low 1, although the O/D Off light started flashing. The next day, there was quite a puddle of fluid and Ifound it to be leakin from the side pan (valve body cover). I tracked down that gasket and replaced it and was alamed to see the entire valve body area covered in a muddy brown sledge. Very little fluid drained when I pulled the pan so I prepared to pour a full load of ATF in when I was done but the stick read a lil OVER full with only 1 quart (yes I checked it warm). Now when run the motor you an hear a very prevalant high pitched whine in there that elevates with the RPMs. Sounds like something spinning dry.
I am at a total loss on this. Anyone have any ideas? If 74eldo came out with a spare good ECM/TCM I'd be interested in pcking that up and trying that.
