Ford Probe The Probe appeared in 1988 and lasted until 1997 in the United States. It was based on a series of futuristic concept cars of the early 1980s, the likes of which have been seen in films like Judge Dredd, Back to the Future Part II and Total Recall. It was a coupe based on the Mazda GD platform, and was powered by a 2.2 L SOHC I4 cylinder Mazda F2 engine.

Default Fastest Stock Ford Probe

hey i'm new to this forum and i was runnin around downtown a few weeks ago with a couple buddies of mine racin around. there were a lot of newer very, very expensive cars down there but they kept being outperformed by a ford probe (not sure what year but ik GT). i'm really thinkin about getting a ford probe but i know little to nothing about them. i was just woundering what the fastest stock probe is like what year, model, etc... it's not that im a speed fiend but since im only 16 i want a car that starts out fast and i can keep upgrading till whenever it kills me. thanks : )

Just some advice, get a 95 or newer as they use the OBDII program in the electronic system. I am a new Probe owner and bought a 93 gt, I am having a common issue with the electronics and the transmission. The 93 94 Probes ran the old EECIV program and is obsoliete....... I had to buy equipment to be able to read my codes as the OBDII can be read by any garage with diagnostic equipment.
As I said I am a new Probe owner but I feel that soon I may be an expert on these older Probes...... not exactaly what I intended..

the probe gt with a 2.5L mannual trans. is a quick car and you would b able to eat mustangs with a v6 no problem up to a 98.......with the probe you can also drop the moter that is in the mazda mx6 wich will give it more balls for your buck then you could throw a cold air intake for about $75 for a even quicker probe

You can usually figure on a 40-50 percent increase with a turbocharger, intercooler, and pump gas.

It may keep up, maybe slightly faster. Expect a 5.0 or 4.6 to eat you again.

k thanks so right now im pretty much torn lol i can't choose if would rather go with a 89-92 for the 2.2L Turbo or go with a newer model V6 24V and turbo it aftermarket but i hear they're a pain to put a turbo in.

Just depends what body style you like more is what it sounds like, yes the 2.2 is faster with its turbo but you could always put a klze in the 93 + probes which would bring you
around tye same numbers alone.
