Ford Probe The Probe appeared in 1988 and lasted until 1997 in the United States. It was based on a series of futuristic concept cars of the early 1980s, the likes of which have been seen in films like Judge Dredd, Back to the Future Part II and Total Recall. It was a coupe based on the Mazda GD platform, and was powered by a 2.2 L SOHC I4 cylinder Mazda F2 engine.

Default Mass Air Flow Sensor 1993 Ford Probe GT

I have been having surging problems with my '93 Ford Probe GT v6 2.5L. I had installed a cold air intake system to replace the old manufacturers system. The only thing I kept was the MAS. When I took the Throttle Plate side of the MAS off, I noticed that there was a dark liquid that smelled like gas and looked a little like dark oil. I checked the air filter and the other side of the MAS and it was there as well. I took the MAS and checked inside and it was coated with it. After cleaning it, I put just the MAS back on and the pipe that goes from the Throttle Plate side to the MAS. While the engine was running, I noticed that while the fans were running, the idle was normal. When the fans shut off the engine would rev up until the fans came back on. I watched the MAS and noticed that when the fans did not come back on , I noticed that the front part of the MAS would jump in and out until it stuck fully in and the engine would rev up to over 3000 rpm. Is it the fault of the MAS or is normal for the MAS to work. If I need another MAS, does anyone know where I may purchase on fairly cheaply. I looked at eBay and could only find one MAS that was being sold as is and I don't like to take the chance on that unless I absolutely have to. Thanks.
