Ford Probe The Probe appeared in 1988 and lasted until 1997 in the United States. It was based on a series of futuristic concept cars of the early 1980s, the likes of which have been seen in films like Judge Dredd, Back to the Future Part II and Total Recall. It was a coupe based on the Mazda GD platform, and was powered by a 2.2 L SOHC I4 cylinder Mazda F2 engine.

Default 90 Probe Automatic Seatbelt Issues

Hi,

I'm having issues with my seat belt retractors. The thing is that if i open both driver side and passenger side doors in any order the seat belts will slide to the open position. However if i should only open one door either passenger or driver side the seat belts stay in the closed position. Is there any way to diagnose something like this without going to a mechanic. I know that its not the motors and that the tracks aren't jammed by the simple fact that they do work on some occations.

Regards,
Brad

Hi, I have the same problem on my 90 Probe GT. Now that Ford has replaced the mechanicals on both my doors, they will not cover any further cost to fix this problem. I believe it is a switch or electrical issue as it happens to both doors at the same time... not the mechanical problem issue from before. I wish I knew where to look, as it's probably a simple cleaning or replacement to get it done. Did you have any success?
Thanks,
Evan

Actually yes ... but i never really did anything. They started working again, although i never touched the electrical at all. Seems this is a very strange problem. The only conclusion i can come up with is that it was caused by a short somewhere, which at the moment is not shorting out. So my assumption is that this problem will arrise for me again in the future.
