Ford Probe The Probe appeared in 1988 and lasted until 1997 in the United States. It was based on a series of futuristic concept cars of the early 1980s, the likes of which have been seen in films like Judge Dredd, Back to the Future Part II and Total Recall. It was a coupe based on the Mazda GD platform, and was powered by a 2.2 L SOHC I4 cylinder Mazda F2 engine.

Default 89 probe 2.2l mtx, bad fuel pump or relay??

my buddies car runs for a few seconds and then dies. this is an 89 2.2l manual, non turbo.
we replaced the fuel filter, this helped a little.
we have checked the reset switch. it is working properly we believe.
we have gotten as far as testing at the test connector. when jumping terminals, you can feel the relay kick, but no fuel pressure, or fuel pump running.
when you start the car, the pressure will go to 40 psi, then taper off over a few seconds until the car dies.
tomorrow we will test for voltage at the pump.
does this sound like a fuel pump, or bad relay? or is there another sensor that is killing the fuel pump.
thanks for any help.

When you turn the key on do you hear the fuel pump humm for a second or two?
If you're not sure, make it a two man operation.
One turn the key on, while the other listens at the gas cap with it removed. The pump is in the tank.
Your car may actually have two fuel pumps, a low pressure high volume one in the tank and a high pressure one under the car.

I'm currently having this issue. I turn over the key and there is no sound coming from the pump. We have checked all of the fuses in the interior aswell as the relays closest to the cab in the engine compartment......there all sound. P.s. my guages as all messed up aswell....i dont know if the two are connected or not (they happened within a week of one another). My probe is an 2.2l lx
