Ford Probe The Probe appeared in 1988 and lasted until 1997 in the United States. It was based on a series of futuristic concept cars of the early 1980s, the likes of which have been seen in films like Judge Dredd, Back to the Future Part II and Total Recall. It was a coupe based on the Mazda GD platform, and was powered by a 2.2 L SOHC I4 cylinder Mazda F2 engine.

Default 94 Probe Alternator pully on crankshaft

The alternator belt pully on the crankshaft has just fallen off. The car was making a noise that I thought was a loose belt. When I opened the hood, I saw that the belt was missing. As I tried to pull the belt out of the engine, I found that it was not broken and the pully was still cradled in it. It is just a ring, the hub is still attached to the end of the crankshaft. The pully for the power steering belt is still in place, as is the belt. Can this pully ring be reattached to the hub on the crankshaft somehow or do I have to replace the whole assembly that is mounted to the end of the shaft?

Angry New Problem

Thanks for your response Webbbassist9. I have since found out that this is called the harmonic balancer. I've got the old ne off and acquired a new one. Now the problem is that in trying to loosen the power steering belt tension pulley, the adjusting bolt was froze up and the cast aluminum bracket broke at the threaded hole when I put the wrench to it.

Does anyone know what other cars might have this identical part for replacement. I have to replace the whole assembly.

It is a 1994 Probe GT with a 2.5L V6 engine. No turbo.
