Ford ProbeThe Probe appeared in 1988 and lasted until 1997 in the United States. It was based on a series of futuristic concept cars of the early 1980s, the likes of which have been seen in films like Judge Dredd, Back to the Future Part II and Total Recall. It was a coupe based on the Mazda GD platform, and was powered by a 2.2 L SOHC I4 cylinder Mazda F2 engine.
I was wondering, is there any Probes that would be called an 1988? Another question, were all the 1988s (and if there was a 1988) made by Mazda? My friend has a 1989 Probe GL and the engine says it was made by Mazda. My 1990 says Ford on it.
August of 1987 was when the first Probe was introduced. The Probe was a joint venture between Ford and Mazda. I have a 1994 Probe GT, and yes the engine was made by Mazda.
The entire Probe project was a joint Ford/Mazda venture so although your engine says Ford on it, I'm sure Mazda had a hand in making it as well.
My Probe will not stay in third gear, it just all of a sudden stopped going into it. When you put it in 3rd, it seems like it goes in and grinds and kicks out when the clutch is let out. Anybody??
