Ford ProbeThe Probe appeared in 1988 and lasted until 1997 in the United States. It was based on a series of futuristic concept cars of the early 1980s, the likes of which have been seen in films like Judge Dredd, Back to the Future Part II and Total Recall. It was a coupe based on the Mazda GD platform, and was powered by a 2.2 L SOHC I4 cylinder Mazda F2 engine.
I have an 89 Probe with a power antenna. It broke many years ago and so I simply disconnected the motor, and held up the mast using a coat hanger (lol). But I was thinking of replacing it with a typical non-powered mast.
1) How the heck do you disassemble the antenna? How does the boot that holds the antenna to the car frame come off?
2) Then I'll need to make the electrical connection. Will this be obvious?
I replaced mine not to long ago. I too have an 89 and it was no problem at all. Just disconnect it from the back of your stereo. Then, twist the base of the antenna till it comes off. After that pull it out. Insert new one and run the wires. I personally ran mine through the trim on the passenger side where the foot plate to get in the car is. Mine works perfectly fine. Let me know if you need anymore help.
