Ford Probe The Probe appeared in 1988 and lasted until 1997 in the United States. It was based on a series of futuristic concept cars of the early 1980s, the likes of which have been seen in films like Judge Dredd, Back to the Future Part II and Total Recall. It was a coupe based on the Mazda GD platform, and was powered by a 2.2 L SOHC I4 cylinder Mazda F2 engine.

If they're both the same engine there shouldn't be any problems, the engine doesn't care what tranny it's hooked to.

Only problems you will have is if they are not the same engine. As Bob stated, the engine does not care what transmission is bolted to it. Put up some information on each Probe.

I tried to put a 5-speed in my 93 2.0 auto and when I hooked the battery up the horn blew and the injectors filled the intake with fuel. So I'd suggest the auto engine going in the manual car.

That sucks prizobe but it is somewhat funny.. I had troubles when I rebuilt a Nissan motor and put it back in turned out I had two plugs switched one for the crank position sensor and the other was the power for the spark plug coil. the wires were just long enough to be interchanged!! It keep me from having the car running for about a month! I went through every bit of info I could find including the haynes book and the Factory Service Manual!!!
But to Mbailey we need more info on your cars to be able to help you more.
