Ford Probe The Probe appeared in 1988 and lasted until 1997 in the United States. It was based on a series of futuristic concept cars of the early 1980s, the likes of which have been seen in films like Judge Dredd, Back to the Future Part II and Total Recall. It was a coupe based on the Mazda GD platform, and was powered by a 2.2 L SOHC I4 cylinder Mazda F2 engine.

This may help.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.

2. Remove the power steering belt.

3. Loosen the alternator adjusting bolt and upper mounting bolt.

4. Raise and safely support the vehicle.

5. Remove the RH splash shield.

6. Loosen the lower through-bolt.

7. Lower the vehicle and remove the alternator belt.

All you have to do is loosen the bolts holding the alt. in place the tighten the tension bolt not to tight then tighten the other bolts that you had loosened.

Sometimes pullies can get a glaze on them and no matter how tight you make the belt it will continue to squeak. Pull the belt off and run some sandpaper over the pulleys until they aren't as shiny.

If you have intermittant running problems or a flat spot/buck/dying/cutting out while accelerating.
Do your self a favor and try some dedicated gas
line dryer, Double or even triple dose it, It's cheaper
then throwing parts at a problem that doesn't throw
codes!!

And old trick was to rub some hand soap on the belts to stop squeaking.. and when you to tighten leave anout a half in deflection too tight and you will ruin the bushings/bearings
