Ford Probe The Probe appeared in 1988 and lasted until 1997 in the United States. It was based on a series of futuristic concept cars of the early 1980s, the likes of which have been seen in films like Judge Dredd, Back to the Future Part II and Total Recall. It was a coupe based on the Mazda GD platform, and was powered by a 2.2 L SOHC I4 cylinder Mazda F2 engine.

Default 94 probe issue(HELP NEEDED)

OK my girlfriend has a a 94 probe. on her way home last night her car started to shake very bad, and then it died on her. after that they car wouldn't turn back on. no lights on the dash. only thing that worked was her head lights. so she got the main relay replaced, and then she had her car jumped started. car ran like crap and then it started to perk up, and then the main fuse popped again. so I'm thinking there has to be an issue with some part of the wiring. i just don't know where to start looking for a problem. any info would help me out greatly. so i don't have to buy her a new car.

Need more info on the car. Automatic/Manual? 2.0L I4 or 2.5L V6? Have you had other problems before this that you have worked on or ignored? Have you checked the belts to see that they all in-tacked still?

Follow all the wire harness and look at spots where it hits a sharp metal edge first, Spin the harness so you can see the bottom of it. You are looking for burn marks, melted insulation etc. IF you don't find any look for anywhere the harness comes in contact with any metal at all. Is her battery tied down?

If you have intermittant running problems or a flat spot/buck/dying/cutting out while accelerating.
Do your self a favor and try some dedicated gas
line dryer, Double or even triple dose it, It's cheaper
then throwing parts at a problem that doesn't throw
codes!!

in the trunk area there in the side panel where the gas spout is there you will find a breaker. its an odd place for it but hell its what ford did. if you pull out the carpet, the side panels on the driver side on the floor, in the corner of the car you will see a cut out and if you stick your hand inside and feel along the inside you will come across a wire follow it to the sensor. see if the red button on the underside isn't tripped, by just pressing it up. if it was tripped then your fine, just start the car and it should run like it did. But to tell you, i'd remove that trip sensor. and by passing it all together. just loop it back in to trick the brain that its all fine.

cause i too had a issue like ur girl, i was on the freeway going a good 75 then i happened to hit a small dip in the freeway and then my car bottoms out loses all drive power. So i shove it in a gear and then try to roll start the car since i'm still going a good 65 now. well nothing, it just throttles up and then shuts off and if left in gear my car would of just stopped in middle of freeway. so i got off on the side had my car towed to my mechanic. he looks it over and simply told me that he found a faulty wire and that my car had grounded out. so i believe him and then drive home. well guess what if find, i hit a dip and it happens again. then i remembered when i had been digging around in my trunk one day a long time ago i had come across that sensor. and i pulled it out saw it was tripped and then started the car and it was fine. but i didn't want to deal wiht the payment to mechanics to just trace out the issue again so i cut it out and just looped it back in.

Three days later and no additional info from kra1985. I guess he is a one post wonder. Maybe he bought his girl a new car. Good for him!

DRK51D3,
You chould be careful about making recommendations to people when you suggest to disable certain things. The "sensor" you referenced is a safety device, and it is not wise to disable it.

It is the fuel safety inertial switch. It will turn the fuel pump off in the event of an accident so that the pump does not continue to pump fuel in the event of a crash, and if the fuel line had been ruptured.

If you disabled yours, I would suggest that you obtain a new one and install it.

but when it trips from a simple dip in the road, its is a good thing to disable esp. when mechanics don't know about it. and then charge u a grip of money for something they didn't know about. plus most of the mechanics i speak with who work with government cars state that they usually will remove that sensor because of the way it will cause a vehicle to bog out and will usually be the cause of a major accident because of it.

Darkside,
IMO, the statements you are making are dangerous. If I were a mod, I would delete your posts and give you a warning before banning you from making additional posts at the site.

Please give me the names of the government mechanics who disable the inertial safety switches on any government vehicles, and as soon as it is verified that they disabled any of those safety switches, that will be the last day that they will be on the job. I can guarantee that!

Any mechanic who is worth a cup of coffee knows about that switch!

If it is defective to the point that it trips from a simple dip in the road, then it should be replaced, not disabled.

FYI there was a huge lawsuit against FORD claiming that the Crown Victorias were fireball deathtraps for state troopers in rear-end accidents. I think Ford proved that the CV is one of the safest vehicles on the road. The point that I am trying to make is that if Ford or anyone ever disabled a safety device like that, that they would be sooo open to a lawsuit that it wouldn't be funny.

Please consider retracting your previous statments.
