Ford ProbeThe Probe appeared in 1988 and lasted until 1997 in the United States. It was based on a series of futuristic concept cars of the early 1980s, the likes of which have been seen in films like Judge Dredd, Back to the Future Part II and Total Recall. It was a coupe based on the Mazda GD platform, and was powered by a 2.2 L SOHC I4 cylinder Mazda F2 engine.
OK I have a 95 Ford Probe SE with Auto Trans. The Trans is bad!!!! I have replaced it a couple time from the junk yard (both the replacement trans came from Mazda 626's) None the less after spending about $500 on the two trans and seals and new fluid for both and all that jazz of installing and blah, the second of the replacement trans went out on a highway drive back. I dunno if the trans overheated or what (added a aftermarket cooler to the car after the original trans failed - the trans cooler in the radiator was clogged.) Anyway I have NO faith in the auto transmissions that come with that car. CD4E was the trans type.
My question is I am trying to find a Ford Probe or Mazda 626 to put my Motor into. I was wondering what year models have the same motor as my 95 Ford Probe DOHC 16 valve 4. I want a car with a standard trans though. thanks for the help guys and gals
Get a standard trans for your car, Don't trash a good probe just because it has a auto tranny!

If you have intermittant running problems or a flat spot/buck/dying/cutting out while accelerating.
Do your self a favor and try some dedicated gas
line dryer, Double or even triple dose it, It's cheaper
then throwing parts at a problem that doesn't throw
codes!!
The car itself is not in the best of shape it have been hit a few times and run into a ditch then at the same time up the otherside of the ditch into a hill. and I am sure some other crap too. I figure it is really more work than its worth to me to change the trans to a standard cause then I would have to put in the slave cylinder and run new hydro lines and replace the computer, install a clutch pedal and well the list goes on including motor/transmission mounts. by the time I spend all that money I could just as easy bought another probe/mazda with all that already there with a blown motor or something and drop my motor in it. Kinda what I did with my altima except I rebuilt the motor instead of just dropping in a different one. Thats why I was wanting to know which cars had the same motor so I could get a bigger pool of cars to look at. I am sure I will have to change like the intake and exhaust stuff on one of these other year model cars to what ever the one that i buy has on it but thats simple simple simple compared to getting all the stuff involved in putting the standard tranny into a auto car.
Auto trannys are junk in these things, I know.
Like stated above, switch it to manual and you be glad you did, get a parts car or go to bone yard and scavenge the parts and fly wheel. You can take the flywheel in and have it resurfaced for around $50, which I did and buy new clutch kit at Auto Zone for less than $150. Had you did this in the first place you would have saved a ton of money.
Dont even think about putting the motor in a 626, it is a waste of time!
