Default 302 out, 429 in

I'm planning to remove and replace a 302 with a 429, in a '71 ranchero. I have the egine mounts on the 429 but need to know if they will line up with the lands for the 302. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Cheers

I did a similar swap on a 72 Cougar. i went from 351 c to 460 p.i(27 years ago) The engine came out of an ltdII police car. the mounts didnt fit so i went back to the junkyard and found a 70-71 torino with a 429. pulled the two-piece mounts and they fit no problem. I think by now someone is probably repopping these mounts or at least created a one piece mount by now.

The lands in the truck are tall, about 2 1/2-3". The mounts on the 302 fit over and are bolted from the side with one long bolt running fore and aft. The mounts on the 429 have a single stud running up and down, perpendicular to the mount.

Do I still need to buy mounts? will the tall lands work if they have or I put a hole in the top for the stud?

I'm trying to do this as cheap as possible as i'm out of work and money is tight, the 302 is original and wore out. That's the reason for the swap.

Cheers

sounds like you got the motor out of a full size ford. the mounts wont fit. i think ive seen the conversion mounts on summitt website. its cheaper than welding.
you never mentioned about tranny?

That's what I was thinking, that the mounts are fro an F series.

I have a toploader 4 speed to put behind it.

i think the f series will be too tall for the torino. best bet, find the mounts. I think ive seen them in dearborn ,and summitt. btw, you plan to use a top loader? Is it from the truck? if so ,run the numbers on the tranny. depending on the year,it might be a 3 speed with od. David Kee Toploader Transmissions, Inc.. good luck

The tranny is a correct close ratio from a torino. I have a few 460's from 74 lincoln MKv's, I wonder if the mounts on them would work???

Another thing I was thinking of doing is useing one of the 9" rearends from the Lincolins but was wondering about changing the disk brakes with the drums on the ranchero. Don't know if they will fit the axels though. Any thoughts?
Cheers

ok, i did some research and I was right , 70-71 torino and 71-73 mustang and cougar. the frame mounts are the same, but as i stated earlier they use a 2 piece motor mount. here is a pic of what you need, but it does not show the engine plate that you need to make it work. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=180425732978

ok, i dont know which lincolns you are thinking of using for the rear, but like 71-79, the chunk will fit, the yokes are different. the overall width is too wide. dont know about the brake assembly but the wheel bolt pattern is different making it hard to find rotors that will fit.
hope this helps

just found this website, goto and look for engine mounts. it gives you a clear display of what you need. and your lincons mounts wont fit. they have the same horizontal bolts but the attaching bolt is shorter. i know, u r thinking of making the holes closer to the top of the frame mounts but that might weaken the mounts themselves.
