Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Default How to get to the spark plugs? 4.0

How do you get to the spark plugs on the drivers side? There's so much stuff in the way I can't even see them from the top. Do you have take all that stuff off, or do you go though the wheel well?

I've got em in. For those that don't know; you can reach all six plugs from the top without having to take anything off, I was able to get a hand in and touch the plugs. It helps if you have a 3/8 inch rachet that has the flexible head, and a long handle, I also used a 3 and 6 inch extention, along with a spark plug socket. I also bought a little packet of anti-sieze compound and applied it to the threads of the spark plug.

The three plugs on the passenger side were the easiest to get to, I used the 3 inch extention on this side. The plug wires were also very easy to replace.

The three plugs on the drivers side, I used the 6 inch extention for the first two plugs beginning with the one that is closest to the firewall. For the third plug I combined the 3 and 6 inch extentions to make one that is 9 inches long and it was a straight shot to get the plug. The plug wires were a bit more of an aggravation because you have to fish them under and through some stuff, follow the path of the old wire.

Hope this helps some one else

Thank you, I was planning on doing my plugs this next weekend.

I also worked on an '05 a while back to change out the plugs, didn't have the proper extensions with me so I never got it done myself, my friend had to finish on his own.

Don't forget that you can use a 3/4" wrench at the end of your spark plug socket for more clearance than you could get with a 3/8 ratchet.

A flex head ratchet wrench may work even better yet!

I've got this chore coming up whenever I can get to it.

Would someone remind me of the plug change interval?
