Procedures for Replacing the Power Window Motor in a Ford Ranger
Ford RangerMore than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.
Great posting. I am having problems with my 87 Bronco II Passenger door window motor. Motor is working, just doen't move the window. I assume the power motor regulator gear.
I assume the procedures are generally the same for an 87 Bronco II as for the 99 Ranger.
I pulled the passenger side motor on my 1994 Ranger. The gear on the motor was directly connected to the large regulator gear. I see posts about a plastic gear that goes bad, but I see no such gear. Am I missing something?
My window wouldn't go up (sounded like gears slipping), but would go down.
Any ideas?
Thank you for the post on replacement of window motor. Just wondering what hole in the door of my 1998 Ford Ranger XLT was big enough to get motor out after getting it loose. All the access holes don't seem big enough for removal???
ford4evr, the nylon gear is behind the small gear you see outside the gear reduction box. The small metal gear you see and the nylon one inside are attached by a hard plastic that my Ford parts man told me commonly fails. I bought a replacement gear kit from Ford that comes w/ the gear, grease and a new gear cover for less than $40.00.
I couldn't find a 3rd party motor assembly locally and I have no time to mail order a part, which is the smarter thing to do if you are not pressed for time.
This article is very good. Thank you.

yes i have a 2003 Ford ranger 4x4 has been a great truch till my drivers side window stoped working,,then 1 to 2weeks later the passenger side window stoped also, could both motors be bad?thought about replacing one then the other, any ideas from any one with simular problems,,help
Earlier today I signed up on ford-forums to seek assistance in removing the regulator from my 1998 Ranger passenger window that recently stopped working. Early in this thread, someone mentioned that their window motor suddenly started working after they had gone through the trouble of removing it. So before drilling out the 4 rivets that hold it in, I tapped on the bottom end of the motor (where the wires come out) with the handle of a screwdriver, and the window started working again!!!
