Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Default Just bought an 01

Just bought a 2001 Ranger 4x4 Supercab with the Edge package. Only has 47K miles on it. I'm buying it from the original owner so have good vehicle history. It is in excellent shape and I'm looking forward to learning about the Ranger from this and other forums. The truck is straight stock. Has the 4.0 V6 with the trailer towing package and 5 speed auto. My daughter will probably drive it most of the time to school and I'll use it weekends.

There's a place I know about, where the dirt road runs out, and we can try out the 4 wheel drive..come on now, what do you say?
I've got the perfect place in mind, it's in the middle of nowhere, only one way to get there, you got to get a little mud on the tires.

Love the Ranger! Picked it up yesterday and have driven about 100 miles so far. I'm very impressed with the power and the smooth ride. This a low mileage 2001 (47K) miles but it is almost six years old (sold initially in aug 2002) so I'm planning on changing out most of the fluids like tranny, PS, Brakes, plus the fuel filter. Will then move to the differentials and transfer case. What do you think of using synthetic tranny fluid? I'm thinking of going all Amsoil fluids. Would appreciate feedback on the value added of using synthetic.

I have a 2001, if your giving it to your daughter hopefully she wont mind the timing belt rattle at 2500rpm - 3000rpms... But I'll agree with you on the love of the power I test drive a 3.0 Liter and remember having to give it a ton of gas where as with the 4.0 it climbs up them just fine. But with gas prices being what they are you might wish you had the 3.0 with a supercharger instead....
