98 Ranger to much heat

I have a 98 Ranger that the heat has decided not to shut off at high way speeds. When you slow down it will quit blowing heat. Also the control for heat does not work (does not matter if on cold or hot it is hot)

Sounds like a bad blend door motor or broken blend door for the second part not sure I understand the first part though.

Thanks for the help. On the first part, when you are driving down the road with everything shut off it will start blowing out heat. At slow speeds it's not as bad. Does this go along with the blend door??

Hi, I have a 95 Ranger and just started having the same problem. Where do I find this blend door and/or motor? Is it difficult to repair...expensive? The only way to stop the heat on mine is to move the selector to off, or put it on A/C. On the hot days, the A/C will definitely not keep things cool. Any advice will be helpful.

On early Rangers, the cable to the damper (blend door) is located under the dash on the passenger side. You can find it by working the heat control while looking under the dash. The cable has a loop in it, which tends to slip off the pin on the damper. My '87 came off one time and I just put a small bend in the cable to keep it on the pin.

I just had my '98 in the shop for the heat problem. They changed the blend door motor and that was $250 and when I picked it up the truck was still the same as when I took it in. After they looked at it again they said the blend door was bad. Can you get to the blend door by taking out the glove box or do you have to take alot more of the dash out? I worry about the air bag.

I'm pretty sure the dash has to come out,as for the air bag disconnect the battery and wait like 10-20 minutes and the system should be deactivated.

I also need to change the multi function switch. Is changing it on a 98 Ranger the same as a 95 F150?
