MPG vs Tire Size Thanks Special thanks to Mike J about MPG and performance. I have a '00 3.0 2WD XLT supercab. Stock tires 225/70/15. I saw 235/75/R15 was stock on the 4WD, so I got Bridgestone AT Revo. The truck sits a little higher (my wife hates it 'cause she is 5' 2", and it's harder to get in "gracefully"). I thought the circumference was the deciding factor in odometer setting, MPG, speedo, etc. They both seemed pretty close, but I notice my MPG is worse (15.5 MPG vs 17 MPG before I switched). I drive 20 miles round trip to work every day, so it doesn't get much highway driving. I can't tell if I'm sucking more gas, or if it's the same, but the odometer is off, so it looks like the MPG is worse.
By the way, I got the AT Revos because Tire Rack said they have the best rating overall. They are great, but they're kinda noisy now (20,000 miles). I want something a little wider than stock, but get accurate MPG, and ride smoother and more quiet.
Thanks. |
