Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Default Valves???

Okay, I got the timing belt changed, replaced the timing belt tensionner today (Which I screwed up royally yesterday) and started it up again.

Here is what is happening.

Please note this is a timing belt I changed before it broke. So although I set the 1 cylinder at TDC and had the timing marks bang on when I removed the old and replaced it with the new this truck ran just great. No noises, smooth etc.... I am just trying to do some preventative maintenance.

The scoop!

1) Start the engine, no problem starts up just fine.
2) Loud clacking noise that quickly, less than 5 seconds, goes down to a very low clicking noise either at idle or when I rev the engine. Was not there before but I can hear it now.
3) Trun off the engine, restart it right away and get the same clacking noise and it dissipates almost right away to the low clicking, same scenario.

Could it be that I am one notch off on the cam sprocket?

1995 Ford Ranger 2x4, 2.3l 5 speed manual.

Any suggestions or help you guys can offer??
