Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Default Sea Foam

I have noticed Sea Foam being mentioned in a few threads and was wondering just how good it is.

In my experience these sort of gimicks cause more problems than they cure.
I recall other similar engine cure-alls being poired into the carburetor, making a lot of smoke and causing the engines to shake rattle and no roll.

I've used Sea Foam once on my 1988 Ford Class C motorhome with fuel injection. I found that it really smoothed it out. But I was real careful to let the breather hose suck in the sea faom real slow like until the cup I had the sea foam in was empty. Actually came real close to sputtering out a few times but got it all in. Then I let it sit for 5 or 6 minutes. Started it up and ya there awas a ton of smoke but let it burn all up then drove it up and down the highway for 15 to 20 minutes to get the motor real hot.

I really found the engine idled smoother and initially would even go so far as to say it had a little more power towing the utility trailer with the toys on it. My motorhome has 210,000 kilomters or 130,000 miles on it.

Plan on using it in the Ranger in the next week or so cause the top of the cylinders looked pretty dark and caked.

Anyone else have any experience good or bad with Sea Foam?

I've always liked it, I use it when I'm unsure of the quality of the gas I got. We have a few stations around here with the reputation of having plenty of water in there fuel.

Have you guys every heard of Sea Foam damaging your fuel system? (IE: Fuel injectors, fuel rails etc.) I just replaced my fuel injectors and I don't want to have to it again, ya know!

I haven't heard anything bad about it. In fact I've heard of some shops using it as an injector cleaner.

jonmark1985,

Really? I've heard from a few people to use a Decarbonizing chemical usually used on boat motors. I don't know. I just have this funny feeling that after 114,000 miles on this motor that there has to be a lot of carbon build up on the lifters, valves and push rods. I just don't want to harm any major components by trying to clean the top end of the motor.

Seafoam was actually created for the marine feild, I could see your worry about knocking anything loose, you should be ok, if you keep the oil changed up right after you hit with seafoam.
