Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Default newbie question

Hi all,

New here and just got a 2000 ranger 3.0 v6 with 58k, and seems like a good truck.
But I got a few questions:

1) it's got a lift kit and looks good but the back end is raised a little higher than the front. Is this normal? I've heard that improper lift jobs can mess up the vehicle, and when I reach higher speeds it drifts slightly to the right. I've heard that you can have permanent alignment problems with lift kits, but I might just need to have the tires (which are pretty new) balanced and rotated.

2) I think I need the trans flushed (it's a manual 5 spd). do I wait until it starts shifting weird or just do it around 60k
(following the general ford scheduled maintenance guide)

3) anything in particular to watch out for on these? I've never owned a ford

Any ideas?

Thanks

if the rear was same height and you loaded anything in bed it would sag lower than front.that's why they did it that way.
follow factory spec.and you can't go wrong.

i have a 2000 xlr. the windshield wipers stay on when the switch is in the "on" position.
my brother-in-law, the mechanic, installed a new driver side window motor last fall. it operates at half speed.

i wouldnt wait untill it starts shifting weird. if you wait till then, then it could do damage to the inside of it

Does the front end have torsion bars?
Rangers tend to have torsion so you're probably in luck because torsion has easy ride hight adjuster bolts.
You might want to know if the drive shaft/U-joint are aftermarket, these need to be adjusted with hight.
And yeah, letting anything lack the amount of lubrication necessary for function is a bad idea.

Does the ranger have a suspention lift or body lift? Im not sure on the newer ones but i had an 87 with a body lift that wasnt properly put on and the bed was about a half inch higher than the cab, and there was no extention added to the steering and my allignment was way off. If it has a body lift you have to make sure when the body was raised the radiator was then lowered back to its original position, the parking break cables were lengthened and the steering was lengthened.
