Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Default 2001 Ford Ranger 4.0L- DPFE Sensor

Check Engine Light was on- code read P0401 EGR FLOW INSUFFICIENT- i replaced the DPFE sensor- problems solved with only $45 gone.....can't beat that. If you have this problem, chances are it is the DPFE. they have a high mortality rate, don't assume it's the EGR!

Thats what I plan on putting on in a few days.

I had the code come in for EGR excessive flow so I replaced the EGR Valve assuming it was sticking open. Now after all that it comes in insufficient flow.

Default Need help locating DPFE

My son who does not live with me has a 2001 Ford Ranger Edge 4.0L. It recently started throwing code P0401. Research has showed this code is 90% of the time a faulty stock DPFE. As he is on a limited budget, I wanted to get the part and install it for him. He is not mechanically inclined and knows nothing about cars. As the vehicle is not with me right now, I want to be sure to purchase the correct part and know exactly where it is on the vehicle so that I can change it for him quickly when he comes from out of town this weekend.

Does anybody happen to have a picture of the part, preferably a picture of the part on the engine, or even a diagram? Again, as this is not my personal vehicle, I don't have a service manual or access to one.

Any help is much appreciated.

I have changed mine 3 times in 3 years. The last one was under warrenty, so keep your reciept. Why they last only a year is beyond me. It cost aroud $45 at advanced auto. On my 00 xlt it is rite in the plain site and easy to remove and install. It has two little rubber hoses that run to your , or near your manifold. Hope this helps.

If anyone has a picture, that would be helpful. I have been sold wrong parts too many times at our local parts store, and want to be sure I have the right one before I even leave the store, and before my son drives all the way up here. Thanks for your help.
