Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Default Just some various questions-

Ok most of these have to do with my 99 Ford Ranger, and some are just general things I've wanted to know about stuff for a while now.... so here we go. (Just for your knowledge it's a 2.5 liter four cylinder and auto transmission)

First these have to do with the Ranger-
1.What does the overdrive do?

2. What kind of Gas milage does it get?

And completely unrelated-
1. I understand a clutch is used to shift gears... but what exactly does it do?

2. Ok you've got a 85 monte carlo (not SS all stock) with a 4.3 liter V6 and a 94 mustang with like 3.5 or less liter V6 engine.... more than likely the mustang is going to be quicker and the engine is going to have more power... why is this?

3. The Emergency brake is basicaly just the back brakes... so using it would not stop you any quicker than just slamming the brakes? Basicaly my question here is... is there a quicker way to stop than slamming the breaks?

I understand most of these are basic knowledge and some just plain stupid.. such as question 2 for the second part... but these have been bugging me. Need answers... thanx in advance.

answer to question #1. I believe the clutch is used to disengage the transmission from the engine, (no power when clutch is used)shift gears and when you let the clutch out it re engages. Each gear you shift is larger so you have more power. I have no answers for the others though but i cold guess.
