Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Angry 94 ranger strange noises

ranger 2.3l manual transmission has 316,000. original engine and transmission. No major problems until today, daily driver 100 miles a day. upon acceleration at the top end of first gear spinning whinning noise, LOUD: push in clutch no noise, in 2nd same thing starts off fine but 15 seconds before shift same thing. does this until 4th and sometimes during down shift. Now, it is intermittant happens every trip but not every shift only through 1-2-3. put neutral while rolling down road and revved up engine and produce same intermediate noises. While at idle can not replicate noise and revving up. Does anyone have any helpful thoughts? Mounts seem to be ok. Seems like it could be coming from drivers side. Please help find a solution or some good troubleshooting tips.

First thing I would do is verify the fuid level in the transmission, noises are really hard to figure out without hearing them in person. Those trannys had rubber plugs up by the shifter that would leak and when the fluid level drops start making noise.

The gear oil is fine. I silconed those plugs about 3 years ago and they are holding up fine. funny thing though... truck was running fine today with no issues. I looked and looked and found nothing. VERY STRANGE. Oh well, works for me. Thanks for the tip.
