Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Default 2000 Ford Ranger flashing o/d off light

I'm having a problem with my 2000 ford ranger xlt 4x4. it shifts hard into second gear, and then the overdrive off light will begin to flash. after it flashes, it shifts fine. but, off the line, it will rev to about 2000 RPMs before it shifts. the error codes I'm receiving are:
4R55E, 5R44E, 5R55E - Low Line Pressure - DTC P0732, Po733, P1762

Low line pressure reading at wide open throttle(WOT) - Possible diagnostic trouble codes P0732, P0733, P1762.

this is my first vehicle with EFI, has anyone else heard of this problem on the rangers?

well your code P0732 means-Incorrect gear selection depending on failure or mode and manual lever position. Shift errors may also be due to other internal transmission concerns (stuck valves, damaged friction material).

and code Po733 means-Incorrect gear selection depending on failure or mode and manual lever position. Shift errors may also be due to other internal transmission concerns (stuck valves, damaged friction material).

the main control valve body separator plate may need to be updated to latest level. This would be an updated part to solve the problem.

thanks for the advice. I think I'm just going to end up taking the computer down and start probing wires to see what I can come up with. I've already had a diagnostic done on it at a local dealership, and they said its definitely computer related, and not mechanical. like I said, this is my first vehicle with EFI so this is all new to me.

I had a similar problem with my 2000 Ranger. I ended up replacing the vehicle speed sensor. It cost less than $20 and it took longer to jack up the truck than it did to swap the part. Hope this helps.

Not to be mr negative, but I have the same problem and the mechanic just told me today that he thinks 2nd gear is just done, and the tranny needs replacing. I like the "main control valve body separator plate" idea though.

YOUR speed sensor is on the rear on top,it is magnetic remove it clean it off with a rag and wd 40 put it back in and it should stop the flashing, I have a 99 Mazda B-3000 did the same thing now it dont.

I just recently got this problem with my trans after I got a engine installed. They said I should try flushing my transmission fluid but I read where that will just screw me. Mine Flash and Shifts hard into second gear. Tho First Gear is really short and Second is long. Maybe in the install of the engine the Timming was off. When I turn the truck off and on It goes away and shifts Fine. Then the Light comes on later and Starts shifting hard into second. Whats up with that?

I have same exactly problem. My car is on 110000 KM. I can temp fix this by re-start engine when I wait for green light at inter-section. It will comes again after driving for a while, like for 10 KM.

The second gear shif is also hard and takes longer, even with the OD light off.

Have you fixed yours yet?

Thank.

Default Similiar Problem

I am having a similar problem with my 99 Ranger. The transmission has a difficult time shifting into 2 gear and the OD light will flash after any significant hard shift. I am attempting to get the Codes mentioned earlier in order to diagnose this problem but a regular code reader (e.g. from autozone) Wont pick any up. I'm trying to avoid spending $100 taking it to a dealer just to let them plug in a computer and read me off some numbers. Any ideas? where can i get the codes read?
