Ford RangerMore than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.
I have a 2009 4 cylinder Ranger supercab XLT with the same vibration at idle or at 2000 rpm. It has been back to the dealer 3 times and they are unable to fix it. So I filed a claim with my Attorney General and the BBB Autoline. Ford now says they have a fix and has offered me a 75k warranty as well as fix the problem. This is my 5th Ranger and clearly the worst. Too bad as I am a big big Ford Truck fan.
I have nearly the same problem. The vibration that I get in my 2009 4 cylinder automatic transmission, is dominant at idle in drive, and minimally reduces in neutral. It disappears on acceleration, and re-appears at just under 2000 rpm.
The best way to describe my noise is as if you are driving at 100 down the highway with one window open, the pulsating noise that you hear until you either open both windows, or close them both. The vibration is felt in the steering column, floor and seat. It is so bad, that after driving for only 45 minutes or so, I get nauseated to the point of nearly vomitting, my extremities buzz, and I get a major headache.
The first time I took it back to the dealer, they went by the "book" , removed and reinstalled the exhaust.
I let 2 weeks or so go by, hoping the vibration would either go away, or at least get better, but it didn't, so I brought it back in and explained the problem all over again
I asked the service person to call me when it is repaired, not just when they are done with it.
So she called today and told me that Ford is aware of the problem, and is working on it now, and that I could pick up my Ranger anytime today.
I told her to keep it until it is fixed
So now I wait for part 3 of the "Games Ford Plays"
Anybody in here have a clue of what could be going on with this "vibration"?
This is my 3rd Ranger, second 4 cylinder all new
Has anyone got an answer on this yet????? My new 2009 Ranger I just bought less than 2 months ago is back at the dealers for this same vibration issue and I explained it almost word for word as Kwill did!!!!!!!!

did you not take it for a test drive before you bought it? i know if i drove a vehicle that gave me a headache and nausea, i wouldn't buy it!
maybe its the fact that its a new ranger thing or something to do w/ the automatic trans, but i have a 2000 4 cyl. w/ a 5 sp. and haven't experienced anything like this.

Most people would find this strange, but no, I did not take it for a test drive. Even if I had, I would have attributed what I was feeling to it being a brand new vehicle, just a little tight. The vibrations and howling, I would have expected to go away, but after 7,000 k's, it hasn't happened yet.
Aside from that, the first time that I even saw any of the vehicles that I have purchased since 1995, including my Ultra Classic Harley, was the day that I picked them up. I have only had issues with this Ranger. I, up until this point, have had ultimate faith in Ford Motor Company.
My 2003 Ranger was a 4cyl. 5 speed manual, no problems whatsoever
I had the same problem with my 2009 Ranger, thats how I found this forum while looking for a solution. Here is the fix, which my dealer did in 1 hour. Ford service bulletin # TSB 09-18-5, dated 9-2-09, titled "Auto Transmission 2.3L Engine-idle Droan/moan/vibration in cab". Solved my problem, hope this helps everyone.
I have a 2002 ranger 4.0 2wd. when you put it drive and accellerate it makes a vibration until about 15mph. I think it has gotten better though. all the trouble with the 5r55e transmission made me think it was that' but when i changed the transmission filter, I didn't see hardly any metal shards. I was also thinking it could be the torque converter trying to lock up or something.I don't think it is the motor because it only vibrates in the forward gears' not P, R or N. it never seases to amaze me how every thing feels like it wants to fall apart anymore.
I got a call from the dealer, asking if I would mind if someone from the tech center in Dearborn could come over and drive it back to the tech center, so the engineers could have a look at it. So they came, drove it to Dearborn, they saw, but they didn't conquer. What I was told, was that they were going to analyze my truck's problem, and figure out the best repair for it, and then issue a TSB to be used on all of the other Ranger's that have the same problem. Whatever they did, the truck came back different, not better, just different. The vibration is now harsher, and the frequency of the howling is higher. Just to be sure, I had my wife drive it, and she also found it intolerable to drive. I asked the dealer, to get in touch with Dearborn again, to see what else they could do, and my service advisor, reported back that the person in charge, was going to e-mail all of the engineers that looked at it, and report back. Eleven days go by, and the report to me is that my Ranger, is within the specifications of other similarily equipped vehicles. My report to them is that maybe all of the other Ranger's are bad too. Changing the spec's to suit a vehicle, does not mean that the vehicle is now OK. I have pleaded with the advisor, to have the Tech center look at it again. Just for fun, I drove the vehicle, in the city on Friday,(haven't driven it for about 6 weeks) to see if it is my imagination or not. I drove it for about 3 hours, and when I stopped for lunch, sat down at the table, there it was, the whole body buzz, was back. headache, and nausea too. So now, I am either going to pursue my fight with Ford Motor Company, or just sell it and buy a (hate to say it ) Toyota. I have had a new Ford every 3 years, since 1995, and currently own 3. I am so disappointed in Ford's response to me, and their willingness to hide this problem, or try to sweep it under the rug, it is just making me sick to think about it. I hope, that by Monday, I will feel different, and continue the fight, a fight that that I shouldn't have to be in to begin with.
This from a company, that has spent millions on noise, vibration and harshness equipment, and testing?
And they can't pinpoint the source of the vibration?
Come on, who's zoomin' who?
