Ford RangerMore than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.
On the second trip to the dealer, the tech reported that he did feel the vibration, and heard the howling. The dealer just happened to have a similarly equipped Ranger in the lot, so he got in that one, started it up, hand heard and felt the same things.
The "engineers" may have re-engineered some parts of the engine or accessories... probably lightened some parts... throwing others off balance.
Also heard the following on another forum:
If the intake / exhaust valve clearances are slightly different amongst cylinders the engine will have a rough idle and could cause vibrations at low rpms... this is mostly noticable in cars with engines of four or less cylinders...
I have a 2002 ranger 4.0 2wd. when you put it drive and accellerate it makes a vibration until about 15mph. I think it has gotten better though. all the trouble with the 5r55e transmission made me think it was that' but when i changed the transmission filter, I didn't see hardly any metal shards. I was also thinking it could be the torque converter trying to lock up or something.I don't think it is the motor because it only vibrates in the forward gears' not P, R or N. it never seases to amaze me how every thing feels like it wants to fall apart anymore.
That sounds like u-joints to me. The torque converter would exhibit those symptoms around 35-40 MPH & above when it supposed to lock.
1.get the harmonic balancer checked[pulley on frontend of crankshaft]
2.check tthe crank case ventilation hose, you need to remove the plastic covers on top of the engine, theres a hose from the rear of th rh[drivers side tappet cover]to thpcv
valve and a short moulded rubber hose that does a90degree turn into the air intake
found a smallhole it the top on roxons truck, looked as though it had been stabbed with
a phillips screwdriver?had to change it twice, same damage both times .this will also give the ecm high o2 readings and the engine vibrates like hell at low rpm,
i think theres a defect in the mold they use to make this section of hose &when the pcv valve closes the vacuum fromthe inlet manifold just collapses the tubing
at the thin spot Roxons truck runs jest fine now,DO NOT BELIEVE the BS
the dealer has been spinning you modern engines should run like a swiss watch
any vibration you can feel is not acceptable! good luck
I just got back, from dropping the Ranger off, at the dealer.
Third time, same problem, maybe I will get lucky.
I just wish, that Ford Motor Company would just own up to the problem, and if they finally admit to a design/engineering problem with the 4 cylinder automatic Rangers, that they would:
1 Find a fix
2 Stop selling them until they do
3 At least tell their customers about the problem before they sell one
