Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Question Replacing Stock AM/FM/Cassette Radio in 87 Ranger

Hey everyone, my name is Joey, and this is my first time on Ford Forums. Anyway, I am interested in replacing the stock AM/FM/Cassette radio in my 1987 Ford Ranger XLT with an AM/FM/CD player and would like to know how I go about removing the old radio and installing the new one. Additionally, I would like to know if there are any particular ones recommended. The height of the stock radio is 2.5", and the width is 7.25", but I don't know about the depth.

Thanks in advance,
Joey

I would recommend hitting up Crutchfield: LCD TV, Car Audio, Home Theater, Speakers, Plasma TV you can enter all your truck's info and they will tell what will and will not fit. If you end up buying from them they will give you step by step directions for removal. I have never worked on an older Ranger so I am unsure how yours is installed. Any pics of your dash??

Thanks for the site, it's very helpful. I do have a pic of the dash, and I do know that there's a few screws that are probably needed to be removed in order to take off the dash panel.

to remove the dash panel, remove the screws that are hidden under the dash pad. you will then be able to access the radio from there. any after market cd player will work with the proper mounting kit and wiring kit if you plan on using the factory wiring (recommended). have fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

just did cd player install in my 93 explorer, and took about 40 mins.
