Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Question Looking to buy this 86 Ranger 2.9 EFI Please let me know what you all think??

Ok im new here, I want to see what all you guys think of this truck. What I know about it, Im going to go drive it/look at it on Saterday the 4th. Its a 86 Ranger, with what he THINKS to be a 88 Ranger 2.9 EFI engine that he put in to it. The other one throw a rod. This is what I know about it:

Its lifted 8in by Altons Tires

its on 35"s

2.25" Exhaust with a flowmaster

He replaced the tires, driver side wheel bearing all the interior

A different gas tank for better clearance

different grill, hood, doors, tailgate, off of a newer one.

He said the valves need adjusted maybe.

Let me know what you guys think here are some pictures of it.

Im buying this for a winter truck/hunting and a play truck. I would like to know what is some known problems with these?? What sould I look for or do when I go and check it out? I just dont want to get myself in to a money pit.

If the price is right I'd go for it. One nice thing is you certainly don't need a jack to work underneath it. There should be plenty of cheap used parts for it in the u-pull-it junkyards, I see a lot of 92 and older Rangers in the boneyard, drives me nuts cause I have a 93 and they are scarce. Looks like a truck that would eat up some clutches but they are no big deal to replace.

$500 tops is what I would pay and that is only if it ran strong.

Reason...... Wrong engine, looks abused, old as hell....

If your Exhaust tip is bigger than your cylinder bore, you are a Ricer!

Well you said it was a 1986 Ranger but the Engine is from a 1988 Ranger but not sure. This means to me it has the wrong engine in it.

$1000 for a 20+ year old beater like that is very high to me, especially when it has been turned into a Frankenstein.

You asked for opinions, that means good and bad.

My guess is it's probably got 3 or $400 worth of tires on it right now, it's got a flowmaster, thats pretty pricey. I'd be looking for leaks, how's the clutch, ask him if you can do a compression check, hows the rust, is the floorboard rusted out? I'd check out the wiring under the hood and throughout the vehicle, I generally don't like to see a lot of black electricians tape and obvious jury rigged wiring. Was it ever wrecked, is the frame straight? It appears the guy has thrown some money in the truck and if it runs all right, I'd get it.
