Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Default Help!

Bought a 98 ranger xlt 4x4 4.0 L last year, and had to have the heads replaced last week. Changed plugs and wires last fall. The truck seems to have a hard time idling(stays between 0,5 and 1 rpm but sounds like it struggles). Feel a shake at higher speeds. Feel a bit of a jerking going up hill, and seems to exhaust more than it should. Pretty fed up with it, can anyone suggest something? Anything?

Thanks.

I am currently having the same problem and cant seem to get an answer other than its not my transmission. First tiem it happened changing the spark plugs and wires seemed to fix it, but has satrted again. I have located soem other information that it could possibly be due to The Mass Air Flow Sensor and the need to clean it. Seems to be a major problem with Ranger 4.0 ENGINES. By the way I have a 1998 Ranger XLT 4X4 4.0 engine.
