Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Think about it...... If you want to steal a car would you sit there and diagnose why it doesnt start and risk getting caught?
that's the thing, the truck is so small inside that if he turned the key and the warning lights come on normally like they do, he'll know he's getting somewhere, and simply has to look through the (very clean and uncluttered) interior for a fuel kill switch that wouldn't take him long to find since he knows what he's looking for. and for some reason this wal-mart i work at doesn't have a company that they pay for outside security, or i wouldn't even have this concern. where i work there has been a person breaking into cars in the parking lot where i work during the night shift, and i work the night shift occasionally, and since my truck is older it would be a tempting target for this person.

i park near the outside of the parking lot where people usually put cars that are for sale, so if he jumps into mine and see's that nothing lights up or works at all he'll figure the car is junk and just quit.

the fact is this is the second vehicle i have seen this happen on, which makes me think it isn't too difficult to break the ignition like this last person did, so replacing the ignition isn't going to ease my fears. i want to put this switch in to completely baffle and thus discourage the would-be theif.

i also did some thinking about it today and putting the switch say on the outside wheel well or under the running board would be even less detectable, yet still convenient to click when entering/exiting the vehicle.

I have a friend that has 70 Mustang, it has a kill switch on it. I would give you some cash if you could find it in a couple of hours with out dismantling the car.

Well according to your own posts about this subject no matter what you do the Thief will find it!

Does your vehicle have carpet or a vinyl floor? If it does a foot push button type switch is easy to hide under it and nobody would know where to push it.

that floor button thing sounds interesting. i just need to scour my engine area tomorrow and find which wires lead from what tomorrow. it rained all day and i can't pull into my garage cause there is so much crap in there, so it had to wait. that was my plan for today but no can do. i really want to get this thing going for a couple reasons, to see if it will work and the second to install something i've never messed with before and doing it right would just be a rewarding feeling.

cam,
I'd like to suggest that you do both... fix the lock on the ignition, and put in a kill switch. For a thief to disable one, and then look for and locate the other, will be time consuming enough that he may move on to another victim.

I would hire a security guard to watch your vehicle since they will find the switch eventually and the security guard will keep all thief's away as long as enough Coffee and Dougnuts are provided!
