Think about it...... If you want to steal a car would you sit there and diagnose why it doesnt start and risk getting caught? |
that's the thing, the truck is so small inside that if he turned the key and the warning lights come on normally like they do, he'll know he's getting somewhere, and simply has to look through the (very clean and uncluttered) interior for a fuel kill switch that wouldn't take him long to find since he knows what he's looking for. and for some reason this wal-mart i work at doesn't have a company that they pay for outside security, or i wouldn't even have this concern. where i work there has been a person breaking into cars in the parking lot where i work during the night shift, and i work the night shift occasionally, and since my truck is older it would be a tempting target for this person.
i park near the outside of the parking lot where people usually put cars that are for sale, so if he jumps into mine and see's that nothing lights up or works at all he'll figure the car is junk and just quit.
the fact is this is the second vehicle i have seen this happen on, which makes me think it isn't too difficult to break the ignition like this last person did, so replacing the ignition isn't going to ease my fears. i want to put this switch in to completely baffle and thus discourage the would-be theif.
i also did some thinking about it today and putting the switch say on the outside wheel well or under the running board would be even less detectable, yet still convenient to click when entering/exiting the vehicle.
