Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Unhappy Rain Water Leaking into Cab - 92 Ranger

I have a 92 Ranger that is not draining water out of the area btw the fire wall and the cab and when I make a turn or am on a slope, water will drain into the cab of the truck. I can not seem to find where to get into this area with much success....I pulled off the blower motor and water vac'ed out the water on the passenger side but there is still water trapped in this area....

any direction on how to get into this area and "unplug" the drain holes?

HELP....cab getting very wet here in OREGON!

is it rain water? or a water problem you can't find? if you have been running the a/c and noticing the water i would say the drip drain tube under your vehicle is plugged, find it and run a wire up it to free up crud. if its rain water i would start under the hood at the windshield wiper area and check for broken plastic, holes in firewall not patched, leaky gasket seal around windshield. GOOD LUCK

pulled the blower motor out again today and reached around with my hand and pulled out more debris and exposed the drain hole from that area....I still hear water "sloshing" around somewhere but it seems to be a reduced amount....not sure where this is trapped but will try to find the drain tube and clean tomorrow....pretty sure it is rain/car wash water as it is increased following either activity and the A/C has not been operational in quite some time....no coolant (R-12)...

thanks for the direction

What's the weather like there? Warm or cold? A lot of rain maybe?

It could be that the condensate drain is blocked. If you run the climate controls in any setting except vent or maybe heat, the A/C compressor runs, even if you have the heat turned up. The idea is that when you're running a defrost setting, you probably have too much moisture inside the cab. Running the A/C compressor doesn't cool the truck when the heat is on, but it does act as a dehumidifier.

If your condensate drain is stopped up, it would cause a leak into the passenger floor. Look from underneath the truck on the passenger side around the firewall, under where the heater/evaporator box is, and you'll find the condensate drain. Clean it carefully, compressed air is best. I once tried sucking on one with my mouth and ended up with spider eggs in my mouth. Not a good idea.

You should also lift the hood and check the cowl area. That's where fresh air is brought into the hvac system. A lot of times leaves or other little debris will get in there and cause water to get into the cab.

If it's not on the passenger side though, and maybe even if it is on that side, most likely you have a leaking windshield seal. That's not uncommon at all, actually. Once you've exhausted your other "fixes," hunt down a windshield shop. Having your existing windshield resealed should run you less than $100.

pretty new to the truck scene. bought a used 94 ford ranger. it lived in CA for 14 years. i brought it to OR and now has a water-soaked headliner across entire back window area. i believe that same issue drained down onto the floorboard on the driver's side only. i ripped up the carpet on the driver's side front and rear. there are no holes in the roof or floor, i sealed around all the windows with a waterproof adhesive, and the water continues each time it rains. ??!! any ideas? thanks

It's leaking around the back window somewhere, it sounds like. Is it an aftermarket sliding window?

if you have a cargo lite on the back of your cab you should also make sure that is tight and sealed properly. i worked for a autoglass distributer and many "leaking sliders" got "fixed" by sealing up a leaking cargo lite!! GOOD LUCK

Default cargo lite

why would the rear interior ceiling be so wet? i can't see entry points in the windshield area; i even waterproofed that with the same waterproof adhesive/automotive caulking stuff. i JUST bought the truck two months ago with the split rear glass, looks stock. how would the water go up instead of just down? First couple times i smelled mold i dried the interior and put it off as result of a cracked door. should i take the liner out? is it easy? thanks

The roof of your truck is 2 pieces of sheet metal (interior/exterior) and possibly if it leaks around the back glass or cargo lite, the wind drives it into the leak area, similar to having leaves and dirt in the back of your truck and driving 60 mph down the highway. Are there any marker lites or signs of a firemans lite on top of the cab area?? GOOD LUCK
