Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Default 96 Ranger Acceleration Issue

1996 Ranger 4Cyl 2.3L Reg Cab

After a 2 year stint of my truck being inactive (stolen/recovered) I have gotten it back and in action.

We just drove the truck from Florida to D.C. area and had no real issues on the way. However when entering Virginia area the hills started to eat into the speed, so naturally I attempted to downshift and power through them in 4th or 3rd even. When attempting to do so though the truck responded with no pickup and depending on how far I jammed down the pedal no response at all (as if I removed my foot from the pedal). It reminded me of when the fuel filter failed and fuel flow was blocked, while I have not checked for another faulty fuel filter I wanted to see if there could be/is other issues at hand with higher rpm acceleration.

The check engine light is/has been on due to loss of vacuum pressure in the fuel tank, however this did not occur before. Any suggestions/ideas?

Thanks

Update:
Pulled the codes today 3 were listed:
P0171
P1131
P1443

P0171 I believe is from the fuel filter failing before. I reset the codes and have not successfully cycled the catalyst monitor (C), Oxygen Sensor Monitor (O), Oxygen Sensor Heater Monitor (OH) or the Exhaust Gas Recirculation Monitor (EGR).

Still experience the lack of power when I have pedal past 3/4 down. When pushing past 3/4 down the engine responds as though I took my foot off of the pedal.

Update 1/23:
96 Ranger 108k miles 2.3 L

3 of the 4 monitors have cycled. The Catalyst (C) monitor still has not, getting P1443.

Cleaned MAF with some MAF cleaner, seemed to help remedy some of the lack of power when WOT, but still experience noticeable jerkyness/sputtering when WOT.
