Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Angry 1988 4x4 dead as rocks

my 1988 ranger 4x4 2.9. is not currently in operational condition. upon purchasing the vehicle i was told the clutch slave cylinder was bad. and thats it. and for a week of laying on my back on the cold ass pavement. i was excited to fire up my truck. same as before. i have sensors going off everywhere. my check engine light will be on until i move my turn signal. and you can hear 4 different relays going off. one will stop another will start. hes got quite a birdsnest of wiring by...everything. im rather dissapointed in my purchase. becasue wiring issues tend to never end. does anyone have any ideas

Goto a junk yard (I have a cot over at Pull-a-Part and they all know me by 1st name) and pull the harnesses. Engine and Cab. Remove yours and put in the 2nd hand brand used one. Or take out a 2nd mortgage and buy new from Ford...

sounds like your going to need the cab harness as well. something is going on in the steering col. if the turn signal turns off the cel. and also if you hear alarms or chimes its for the key in the ignition, could also be more issues in the steering col. wiring I would try to pull the cover and take a peek

ok ive isolated the problem (kinda) my starter solenoid will kick multiple times. and the way the previous owner had it wired he has 3 extra wires bolted to the positive post on the solenoid. i dont know why but i would rather not question it. but im going to bypass the solenoid by installing a direct power push button start. now the second issue ive found is by the battery (passenger) on most the fuse block is mounted on the inner wheel well. on mine it is not. actually i have not yet located a fuse box in the engine compartment. but none the less. under that fuse box(on other years/models) there are 3 relays black, gray, and BROWN. these relays are about 2'' square and about 3 inches long including the plug on the bottom. the top is just a colored box. i am not familiar with these. but the brown relay is tripping when the igniton key is turned. i can feel it click in my hand. ive replaced it already and its still doing it. does anyone know what this relay is to, also if i can bypass it, thanks everyone

I believe the brown relay is for the ECM. i know the green one is for the fuel pump and the gray one i have no clue my ranger only has the green and brown. Id check the ground wire on your ecm which is located in the cab passenger side under the kick panel.
