Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Unhappy 1990 V6 2.9L - Passenger side window motor

Hi,

I see a few threads about replacing later Ranger electric window motors but can't find any about older models (1190 Ranger). I'm currently trying to figure out how to replace the electic motor. I've undone the bolt on the underside of the door (with the Window up) but I'm not sure what else I have to undo?

I'm nervous about drilling out rivets and I don't think I have the tools to replace them? Can someone point me in the right direction? Pictures always help if available?

Thanks,

Saracen

you have to disconnect the window from the regulator, then, unfortunatly, you have to drill out the rivets that hold the regulator to the door and then rivet it back in place once your done. I don't think there is enough room to unscrew the motor from the regulator while it's still in the truck. You'll need a rivet gun and the correct size rivets, but they are cheap and so is the tool, AND you'll most likely need to again at some point so pony up and do it. You might get some guidence from the Haynes and Chiltons manual as well, with pics, on how to get it out.

Thanks for the help.

Foy anyone that is looking for similar advice (I was looking on Google for a while before I found this forum):

I finally drilled out the rivets (4 of them) and pulled out the regulator and the motor. In hindsight this was a much easier way to proceed. Rather than use rivets (it seems they would need to be rather large) I'm thinking to use a spring nut and 1/4" low profile allen bolt (from a local hardware store). There is one rivet that will not take a spring nut so I'm thinking to tap it out and use just a bolt in that particular hole.

Separating the regulator from the window is as simple as sliding the regulator arm out the front of the window slider mechanism (at the bottom of the window glass). The whole assembly came through one of the access panels fairly easily.

Separting the motor from the regulator is as easy as undoing 3 8mm bolts.
