How long has your Ranger lasted without major repairs?
Ford RangerMore than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.
How long has your Ranger lasted without major repairs?
Hi everyone. I just found this site and was going through some of the forums and its full of all the typical threads of problems found and advise from others on how to fix it. All good stuff.
But what I'm wondering is, how long have all your Rangers lasted without any major repairs? I know everybody's going to be a little different here and there, but I'm just trying to get a guage of life expectancy of the vehicle. I hope to drive mine into the ground someday .
I'll start. 2003 XLT 4.0 4x4. 80,000 miles. No major issues so far. Only oil, brakes and the drivers side front hub. I hope to get another 80K out of it.
I have a 93 and 94 no major issues smae motors no rebuilds yet and same trans both almost 200k one did take a big hit in teh front last summer I plan to fix it as I love the truck.
I have a 1994 2 wheel drive with a a 4.5l V6 - 5 speed, its done 340,000 klm (210,000 miles) with the no need for anything more than the usual wear and tear: shocks, front end, one clutch and a load of tyres and breaks.
Its a work truck for my carpentry business, and it pulls a medium sized trailer pretty much all the time. I live in Winnipeg Canada which is a damn hard environment for a vehicle, -40c to +40c. (40 below to 100 above F)
My advice: get it oiled so it doesn't rust, change the oil regularly and don't drive it like its rented.
1990 Ranger 4.0L V6 Auto, 275,000 miles on it when I gave it to my grand-daughter about a year ago. It had the normal maintaince on it, an A/C line replaced, twice, normal brake repair, intake leak, front pump seal leak on trans, 24 mpg and runs like a top.

I have a 1992 Ranger with a 3.0L v6, 112,000 miles. The freaking headgaskets blew last month. Other than that just the normal stuff, filters, pads, belts, plugs, wires, shocks, exhaust, battery, starter motor

1993 Ranger - 2.3L - 5-spd
I have a 2000 Ranger XLT 4x2 super cab with a 3.0L and a 5 speed transmission that just rolled over 103,000 miles the only thing I have done major to it as far as keeping it running is changed the fuel system (Damn E-85) it may say flex fuel but it will eat through the system in about 2 to 3 months. I had to repair the drivers side door, mirror, and back window when my mom lost control of the truck when it was raining one morning but other then that stuff and the normal stuff my truck has been good to my family and I.
I was sevice manager at a company we had 5 trucks 4 ford rangers 1 4 cyl manual trans
and 3 with the 3.0 and auto tranny, And 1 S-10! The s-10 cost us more money then all 4 ford rangers put together!!!! It was more expensive on maintenence and repairs and not to mention fuel. The worst problem with the ranger we had was a VSS that went south and the truck had to be shifted manually, no OD! But at least it didn't need a tow! Now the s-10 got towed more times then any of them. Here is chevies excuse about the tranny problems, It usually fails around that and it isn't covered under warranty so they won't fix it. had to take it to 3 different places to get it fixed for a reasonable amount, 2 chevy dealers and one independent trans place. From around $900. to $150. For a truck with only 80k on it!!

If you have intermittant running problems or a flat spot/buck/dying/cutting out while accelerating.
Do your self a favor and try some dedicated gas
line dryer, Double or even triple dose it, It's cheaper
then throwing parts at a problem that doesn't throw
codes!!

well, my '88 went 145,000 before i needed a valve job due to a plugged cat, i went ahead and did a full overhaul, kept it until 203,000. very trouble-free truck. the '93 however wasnt as trouble free. lost 2nd in the trans at 80K, had a vaccum leak in the upper intake at around 105K. various other little issues. has around 122K. the '88 was a 2.3 2wd s/c, the '93 is a 4.0 4x4 s/c. both trucks have 3.73 gearing and 5 speed manual trans.
