Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Default Air Conditioning/fan Issues

99 ranger xlt 6cyl

Here are my symptoms:

1. Fan only works on the highest setting, not working on the first 3.

2. AC is somewhat cool, but far from cold.

3. Max AC is warm.

4. AC Compressor is turning on and off every 5-6 seconds.

5. Clicking noise coming from both the low and high pressure switches when the compressor turns on and off.

6. I checked the pressure on the low pressure line, it isn't every steady, the gauge bounces from about 20psi to 45 psi as the compressor turns on and off (90 degrees outside)

According to the manual it is r134, so I purchased a recharge kit, but after seeing the pressure spiking, I was afraid to add any more refrigerant to the system.

I would greatly appreciate it if someone could help me figure out what is going on. Thanks!

I added the r134 recharge refrigerant and it worked, AC is ice cold. Fan is still only working on highest setting, any ideas on that?

Ok so this post is dumb, although I'm not sure how to delete it. The fan problem is caused by the blower resistor, found under the hood, passenger side on the firewall. Sooo since I made this dumbass post, I will create another one as a "how-to" recharge AC and replace the blower resistor. Sorry for this bs post guys.

Nothing dumb about it.
You have illustrated a problem, some symptoms, and a solution. All in about 90 minutes. That's great.

Maje sure there are no leaves built up under the blower resistor. I saw those resistors at rockauto.com.
