Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

Smile 1993 Ford Ranger Problem

My truck is having a hard to fix problem. It's a 5 speed, manual trans. The check engine light does not come on. The engine shuts down sometimes. Last Sat. was the first day I used the fuel pressure guage. Sometimes the pressure would go up to 10 PSI when I first turned on the key, engine not running, but the truck would start every time. When it was running the pressure was 31-32PSI. Yesterday it was very different. When I turn the key on this time, the pressure shoots right up to 40PSI. The fuel pump is not shutting off this time. It just keeps running and when I try to start the engine, it doesn't start. The engine just keeps turning. It almost sounds like it is not getting any fuel. After quite awhile. I mean minutes, after the fuel pump finally stops running, the pressure drops to about 30 PSI, then the engine starts right up. The fuel pump relay is fine. Any ideas? Thanks

I'm guessing that 30-40 psi is a normal range for your engine. You might want to pick up a Haynes or chilton's manual and check it. While at it see what the values are for the fuel pressure regulator.

Perhaps the problem is not fuel. Do you have a check engine light lit? If so take it to autozone or someplace to scan for diagnostic codes.

Sounds like your injectors are bleeding down. Try starting your truck with the accelerator held down to the floor.
