Ford Ranger More than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.

If it is slipping, you have already done significant damage. It will have to be rebuilt, more likely sooner than later.

if its slipping u probably have done damamge to it already and if the o/d light is on well from prior expiernce thats means 1 of 2 things um 1 a sensor somewhere is bad option 2 trasnmission is bout to be done. and with the problems ur having its gonna be option 2

Hi, I am currently having the same problem with the same exact truck. I am replacing the Shift Controll Solenoid. Their are 4 you have to drop the pan and find the one that is bad.

Lubegard additives,Lubegard transmission fluid additives This stuff works and as long as the fluid passes the PTT test(stickied in engine and drivetrain) it will help slipping issues.

If you have intermittant running problems or a flat spot/buck/dying/cutting out while accelerating.
Do your self a favor and try some dedicated gas
line dryer, Double or even triple dose it, It's cheaper
then throwing parts at a problem that doesn't throw
codes!!

My experience on Rangers (I've had 4) is that when the OD light is flashing and your transmission is slipping, it probably has mechanical damage. My last ranger was doing the same thing you described and the mechanic said "overdrive solenoid" but when he opened up the pan there was metal fragments.

Like I said before. If it is slipping, you already have done damage.
