Ford RangerMore than two decades ago, the Ford Ranger debuted as an answer to various compact pickup trucks being made available by Japanese automakers. The Ranger was cleanly styled and offered with a choice of a 6-foot or 7-foot bed. Ford boasted that the Ranger had more interior room than the best-selling imports and that 4-by-8-foot construction material could be carried in the bed.
hello guys, i am new here and will be doing some researching on and thru the forums for my dad who has a 1993 Ford Ranger...
okay for my first question, how can i tell if my 4x4 is working, cause my lights do not come on, on the dash or where the switches are. i have check all the fuzes and bulbs and all are good...
also, what type of transfer case is in the 1993 Ranger. is it the Borg-Warner Model 13-54?
My avatar is the load tester I talk about from time to time.It is a 3157 bulb and socket wired to use both elements with some aligator clips. This rig pulls 2.6 amps my regular test lamp is .13 amps.I can email the picture to anyone if they want a closer look, just pm me with an email.
Run a self test of the 4x4 module. I believe it is located in the driver rear kick panel, behind the jump seat, if you have one. There is a push button on the side of it and an LED light. You must disconnect the two bottom harnasses from it and then turn the key on, wait 4 seconds for the system to power up and then push the button. It should light up after running a test (a few seconds) and then either stay on or flash 4 times. If it does nothing or stays on, it must be replaced. If it flashes 4 times, then the module is ok and the problem is somewhere else in the system

I am not an expert but take your truck on a lift, set the transmission on drive and I would expect the 4 wheels to turn or at least one of them in the back depanding if the back diff is locked. I have a AWD and my wheels are not getting any power apply to the rear. Thats how I am testing it. in my case the ABS sensor are turning on to tell me the rear is not turning. When I am on the road it stay off, not lit.
On my Ford Escape, the AWD light only lit when there is a problem, other than taht it stays off.( not lit)
okay, i have done the module check that oldtimer35 suggested and the module tested good. i have been unable to try micheldSUV's method yet, but should be able to this weekend.
next question, since the module self tested good, might it be a vacuum problem or something like that?

by any chance is there a way to do a self test or any kind of test on that solenoid (or whatever it is that has the wires coming off of it that is on the back of the transfer case)?
just wanted to bump this thread to see if anybody knows if you can run a self test on that solenoid (or whatever it is that has the wires coming off of it that is on the back of the transfer case)?
